Term of the month: F as in farewell lecture Are full professors obliged to give a public farewell lecture when they retire? Are other faculty members also permitted to say goodbye with a lecture? Full professors who retire, i.e. become emeritus professors, may have their departure celebrated with a farewell lecture. Full professors may decide themselves whether to give a farewell lecture or not. The University welcomes a farewell lecture in the semester after which a professor retires. Besides the full professors, associate professors and adjunct professors, as well as permanent lecturers, have the option of departing from the University of St.Gallen with a farewell lecture. All other faculty members do not give farewell lectures. Farewell lectures treat a wide variety of topics from the fields of economic, legal, social, cultural and political sciences. Farewell lectures are announced once a semester in the programme directory of the public programm.
